MCS Costa Rica is Closer Than Ever

Over the past three years, Medical Component Specialists has been working on something exciting: our new Costa Rica facility. Now officially open, this new facility expands MCS’s production capacity and strengthens its ability to serve high-volume medical device manufacturers. This expanded production positions MCS to compete aggressively across the rapidly growing global medical device market.

Next Stop: Costa Rica

From its sandy beaches to lush rainforests, Costa Rica is an undoubtedly beautiful country. However, the natural beauty isn’t at the top of our list when it comes to why we’re launching our latest facility. If you’re still catching up to speed, these are some of the unique qualities that make Costa Rica perfectly suited for a company like MCS:

  • Proximity: Just a short flight from the US, MCS’s Costa Rica facility benefits from an enormous logistical advantage, like shorter transport lead times, stable time zones (relative to the US), and protection against the tariffs and supply chain bottlenecks often associated with overseas manufacturing.
  • Skilled Workforce: Boasting an exceptional education system with a 98% literacy rate, a strong pipeline of engineering graduates, and university partnerships, we can rely on a steady flow of experienced cleanroom and manufacturing talent.
  • Trade Incentives: To attract foreign direct investment, the country has established robust Free Trade Zones (FTZs), where companies benefit from significant tax exemptions, including 0% income tax for up to 12 years, accelerating ROI for global manufacturers.
  • Expanding Production Capabilities: With an entirely localized supply chain, OEMs can confidently source precision components, medical grinding services, and sterilization right in their backyard, from companies like MCS, streamlining the production of both basic disposables and complex surgical instruments.

What’s Packed in MCS’s Bags

MCS has packed its bags with everything it needs to support the vibrant, growing medical device industry in Costa Rica. Our state-of-the-art over 20,000 sq ft facility in Orotina is a strategic local hub, backed by decades of MCS’s industry-leading capabilities and global expertise.

For the past three years, we’ve developed custom engineering and process IP that allows us to deliver everything from critical single-use disposables to highly complex surgical instruments with unmatched consistency.

At launch, our facility operates twenty grinding centers with capacity to expand to a total of fifty on demand. However, the cost savings will be immediate, reducing costs by as much as 30%. Each grinding center leverages MCS’s unique IP plastic grinding technology with a fully automated cleaning system for both metals and plastics.
